Malawi offers fantastic trekking and hiking, with Mulanje’s stunning scenery, regular and well-maintained huts and clear paths in the South and treks through Nyika National park, with its rolling grasslands, forested valleys and steep escarpments, diverse wildlife and mountain villages in the North. There are a multitude of other options, including the Zomba massif. Treks can be arranged from few hours each or extended to longer excursions of several days. Mulanje can be climbed in a day or its ranges traversed over a week.

Malawi provides intensive and exclusive wildlife viewing in unspoilt areas of genuine wilderness. There are nine National Parks and Reserves shared between the North and the South of the country, with over 650 species of birds. There are an abundance of buffalo, zebra, antelope, monkey, baboon, bushpig and hippo. The black rhino has recently been reintroduced and, in addition, the Majete National Park is currently re-introducing Lion, making Malawi a “Big 5” destination.
Overland tours of Malawi by 4x4 can be one of the best ways to see the best of what the country has to offer, encompassing days in the wilderness, the wildlife parks and reserves and parts of Malawi rarely seen by most visitors.
