Fisherman's Rest (FR) is a long established base for Christian mission in southern Malawi owned, and overseen by Wik & Sue Chichlowscy. It is managed locally by Rory and Charlotte Bruce (missionaries with International Teams).

Also managed from Fisherman’s Rest, Tilitonse (All Together) a centre which serves as a base for the work of Fisherman's Rest Community Trust, located on a one acre site, ten minutes walking distance from Fisherman’s Rest.

The work from Fisherman’s Rest is varied but consists of 5 main areas:

1- Tourism for Development
Fisherman's Rest is sited on a beautiful 50 acre nature reserve and employs around 30 local people. Tourists, businesses and missionaries use the facilities for holidays, retreats and conferences. FR aims to:
Provide high quality holiday, workshop and retreat facilities and encourage tourists to spend time and money in southern Malawi whilst providing good employment opportunities for local people and increasing living standards.

2- Hosting Short Term Missions Teams
FR hosts student, church, youth, school and family groups who wish to visit Malawi and help with local projects such as schools, clinics, orphanages, churches and children's programs. FR arranges and hosts these programs and links groups in with local partners who want to have visitors join in with their work.

3- Community Transformation
FR aims to help local people develop and transform their community. Ultimately this is through people learning to love and serve Jesus, also demonstrated in a number of practical projects helping bring the Kingdom of God to Mbame. These include; micro finance loans for new businesses, tree planting, health promotion (e.g. a malaria education and mosquito net distribution program), selling locally made goods in the FR Gift Shop, we hope to start literacy training very soon.

4- Leadership Training
Organized by our team and hosted in Tilitonse, we have a Bible Teaching Ministries centre, a weekly youth Bible study and meet with individual young people to help them grow as Christians.

5- Children's Ministry
At Tilitonse we host several children's activities including an after school club, football coaching for young boys, pre-school and homework club.

We seek to empower, support, encourage and partner with local people to find solutions to the problems faced. The work is varied, flexible and evolving, however it is always with the consistent aim of living out Jesus’ example through both words and deeds in Mbame and the Lower Shire Valley.
