Travel That Connects Cultures

Go beyond the ordinary at Fisherman's Rest

An out-of-this-world trip starts here

You want more than just a trip to Malawi — you want something real. An experience that’s direct, personal, and lasting. A chance to see how sustainable tourism can truly be a force for good.

And you want your kids to step into a world that feels a million miles from the everyday.

At Fisherman’s Rest, we make that possible.

Meet Communities

You’ll laugh, share, contribute, and learn, not as a tourist, but as a guest in the truest sense. This is travel that means something.

Love the Environment

You’ll gain a clear understanding of why conserving resources matters — and how, through prayer, projects, and resilience, communities are adapting to environmental change in practical, lasting ways.

Stay in Nature

There’s nothing quite like Mbame Estate, a natural stronghold in Malawi and a living seed bank for change. Here, you’ll marvel at Africa’s wild beauty and sleep in harmony with it.

Discover Malawi

Explore Malawi’s highlights (there are many!) to round off your trip.

Fisherman's Rest Lodge Highlighted In…

Gain a flavour of what it’s like to adventure with Fisherman’s Rest, because you don’t want to just see a different part of the world. You want to understand it.

What You Can Expect

Every carefully planned trip begins with rolling up your sleeves and stepping into community life. One day you might be helping to fix a village water pump, the next reading stories in a library, or constructing a Changu Changu Moto stove. On Sunday you can attend a vibrant local church. Each experience connects you with people, places, and purpose.

And when project work pauses, the adventure continues. Malawi invites you to explore its lakeshores, mountains, markets, and wildlife. Our programs weave together both sides of the journey — connection through meaningful projects and falling in love with the beautiful corners of this country.

Projects You’ll Be Part Of

There’s a team behind our projects, making them sustainable, goal oriented and successful. You don’t just get to experience our unique approach to sustainable development, you get to be a part of it. From fixing water points to singing under trees while you shelter from rain, no two days are the same, come see for yourself!

Your time will transform lives

Especially your own!

Every detail taken care of, so you can focus on what matters: connection, culture, and meaningful change.

Madzi Alipo

Restoring water. You’ll feel the stress of a broken water pump, and the impact it has on daily family life. You’ll see the relief and delight when water flows again!

Trees & Changu Changu Moto

From grafting mangos, to planting trees and personally making a Changu Changu Moto, you’ll hear the joy and see the financial security a family forest can bring.

Project BRAVE

We’re not just working for girls to have better access to education, but boys too. Equality has to come from working together and wanting change. Talk, learn, share and be challenged.

Schools

Less than ten years ago many schools didn’t have enough classrooms. None had libraries. That’s all changed, read with children, inspire students and have fun!

Phala

Malawi is still one of the poorest countries in the world. There is huge hunger across the country and malnutrition is rife. Serving fortified porridge improves nutrition and readiness to learn.

Beyond

Projects spill into different areas of need. Thanks to your stay, projects don’t just rely on ring fenced grants, we have scope to be creative, meet needs and write outside the lines - join us!

Are you ready?

Step into a world where individual people matter and pulling up a chair is an everyday activity. This is travel that makes space for conversation, not just contribution!

Leaving a Lasting Impression

For over twenty years, families, couples, groups, and schools have shared life-changing visits with communities in Malawi. Will you be next?
