14 day tour

Price Range: £955 - £1750 (per person excluding flights)

This tour gives you a taste for both community life and a chance to explore some of the variety and beauty of this diverse country. You will spend two weeks at Fisherman’s Rest engaging in community projects, helping in schools and the local community centre with our team on the ground. After a week of work in the communities, you will have the opportunity to visit Majete Wildlife Reserve for the weekend. After another week of engaging with local projects, you will have the option to spend your last weekend relaxing on the shores of Lake Malawi or taking up the challenge of hiking up to one of the mountain huts on Mulanje Massif, where you can enjoy the spectacular and unique environment of one of its peaks. Create an unforgettable experience which will leave you planning your next visit!

Days 1 - 6

Arrive at Chileka Airport and transfer to Fisherman's Rest. Settle in and meet the team. Enjoy an evening meal by the pool and have time to relax before the project work starts.

Spend the morning joining our team as they attend either a city church or a local church. If that's not your cup of tea, explore our private game reserve.

After breakfast, we highly recommend spending 30 minutes learning some of the basics of the local language 'Chichewa' with members of our project teams here at Fisherman's Rest. Head out with the Fisherman's team to your school for the week. Work with the students to help them plant their school vegetable gardens as part of their agriculture studies, help the librarians run English reading and comprehension sessions. Return for lunch at Fisherman's Rest and then spend the afternoon leading activities and games at our community centre 'Tilitonse', or alternatively engage with another Fisherman's project team and gain an insight into the on-going daily running of our community projects. Each evening you can unwind and reflect on your day whilst watching the great African sunset by the pool.

Day 7 & 8

Head to Majete Wildlife Reserve for an over night stay and, if the wildlife is on your side, experience the Big Five! The next day you'll head back up to Fisherman's for a second week of engaging with local projects.

Days 9 - 11

In 'project week 2', experience more of what Fisherman's Rest does. Spend an afternoon in Blantyre visiting its historical sites and venture to Thyolo Tea Estates for an afternoon in the vast, serene green fields of Malawi's tea plantations.

Days 12 - 14

Leave Fisherman's Rest early morning for Lake Malawi or a hike up the Mulanje Massif. Enjoy your last few nights in Malawi on the shores of 'The lake of stars' or on 'The island in the sky' (Mulanje Massif).  On your last morning head to the airport and say goodbye to new friends and the warm heart of Africa
